Advancing excellence in association leadership through global community support

COMMUNITY AND NETWORKING

CONNECT AND COLLABORATE

The IAL hosts regular networking events where our global community of association leaders can connect and collaborate with fellow peers.

In order to best serve our members, we offer a varied programme of both online (global network) and in-person (currently UK only) events delivered via an assortment of different formats.

Open Forum

Whilst all of our networking events provide a safe and confidential space for connection and collaboration, the 'Open Forum' format invites association leaders to come together for networking and peer-support, because sometimes leadership can be lonely.

There is no set theme or agenda, just an encouraging and supportive platform where you can discuss professional difficulties, celebrate successes, generate ideas and define solutions.

Forum Focus

Our 'Forum Focus' events are hosted by invited industry specialists from across the non-profit sector and those that support it.

Our expert will take a deep dive into a specific issue or trend, uniquely focused on the responsibilities of association leadership, which is then followed by facilitated group discussion, allowing all participants to share their experiences and learn from one another.

OUR NEXT EVENT...

The IAL launch event for Compass: the systems map for association leaders...

Association leadership is a vocation; it is a profession; and for an increasing number of people, it is a career choice. It is a craft which requires a complex mix of skills, knowledge, and experience, dexterously combining knowledge of association culture, structure, and politics, with expertise in strategy, advocacy, and corporate governance. The days of “I’ve done it, so I can run it” are long gone.

A new generation of association professionals are progressing their careers through association management, and as they work towards or progress through their c-suite roles, it is imperative that they possess an understanding of the qualities and competencies that are necessary for success as associations’ senior leaders.  In response to our strategic objectives of ‘Professional Advancement’ and ‘Professional Excellence’, the IAL are thrilled to introduce Compass, a multidimensional systems map of the core skills, knowledge, behaviours, and characteristics required to lead successfully in the association sector.

Join us on 14th September for a special edition of the IAL Forum where architects of the systems map, Marie Garnett and Simon Forrester, will navigate an exclusive first-look at the structure and themes of Compass.
